Ripple 101: What is Ripple?
Ripple is a company in the United States currently developing and deploying the Ripple Protocol to business and banks all over the world.
Ripple’s base blockchain token XRP was first created and released in 2012. The centralised nature of the token doesn’t fit the existing decentralized cryptocurrency frameworks and is under constant scrutiny from investors and traders in the financial and cryptocurrency markets.
Ripple has a total supply of over 100 billion tokens. With only 40 billion in circulation, Ripple corporation still holds the lions share and release over 1 billion per month into the market to funds it’s business activities.
Ripple’s XRP Wallet also requires a minimum balance of 20XRP which can never be removed. This wallet balance essentially burns XRP from the total supply over time and also increases liquidity in the network.
